MCA Kosovo’s Deputy CEO for Programs Burim Hashani along with Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) Project Director Bajram Neshati and our Millennium Challenge Corporation counterpart Jonathan Saiger – Senior Operations Advisor for Energy met with the Board of Energy Regulatory Office (ERO).
The meeting focused on updating the ERO Board on the progress of the Energy Storage Project and the implementation plans for BESS, aimed at strengthening the capabilities of KOSTT and the newly established Energy Storage Corporation of Kosovo (ESCorp).
Key discussions included the current state of the legal and regulatory framework for BESS operations, as well as strategies for integrating Renewable Energy Sources (RES) into Kosovo's power system. During the meeting, it was emphasized the importance of creating an enabling environment for both BESS and RES, vital for the country’s transition to a more sustainable energy model.
Additionally, MCA Kosovo and MCC presented updates on the Energy and Climate Policy Support Activity, highlighting identified areas for cooperation. They proposed technical assistance to enhance ERO’s capacity for emerging technologies and support crucial reforms in Kosovo’s power sector. This includes developing legislation and regulations that facilitate energy storage activities, ensuring a robust and resilient electricity market.
